Equipment Check #1

This weekend I started preparing in earnest. I took the bike in for an early service. It only has 2400 miles on it, and it is technically not due for service until 10,000. I wanted the standard oil that was put in at 600 miles replaced with synthetic and everything double checked. My local Triumph dealer went out of business, so I actually had to take the bike to a shop 70 miles away; kind’a dumb for an oil change, but I wanted a mechanic to look the bike over.
Saturday night I tested my camping gear. I set up the tent in the back yard. It was a little trickier than I had expected so I’m glad I went through it with plenty of light. I may not make it to the first camp site before dark. I slept in it Saturday night. It's not the Ritz, but it will do.

I mounted my travel gear on the bike. I’m not leaving until Friday morning, but I want to take a few rides with the gear on the bike to make sure nothing blows loose. I need to purchase a small travel cooler and a small bag to mount on the handle bars.
Here are the items I’m planning to bring:
1. Small one man tent
2. Sleeping bag
3. Camping pillow
4. Extra blanket
5. Tire repair kit (Fix a flat and plugs…)
6. Camp saw
7. Mallet (tent stakes)
8. Knife
9. Rope
10. Small mess kit
11. Water bottle
12. Small first aid kit
13. Insect repellant
14. Flash lights
15. Lighter
16. Extension cord
17. Bungee cords and extra straps
18. Riding jacket
19. Leather vest
20. Hiking shoes
21. Running shoes
22. Water shoes
23. Socks
24. Work out / running clothes
25. Long pants
26. Short pants
27. Underwear
28. Light shirts
29. Long sleeve shirts
30. Heavy sweat shirt
31. Thin riding gloves
32. Heavy riding gloves
33. Sweat pants (to sleep in)
34. Sun glasses
35. Eye glasses
36. Travel kit (tooth brush, razor,…)
37. Toilet paper
38. Towel
39. Radio
40. Cell phone and charger
41. Laptop
42. Cameras

That’s my current working list.

The experience you gained on the "Trail of Tears" trip has served you well. The extra preparation you are doing will make your road trip much smoother. Godspeed son.
